Kylian Mbappé, the French football star, is under media scrutiny over a rape investigation in Sweden. His lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, stated that Mbappé will explain his actions to Swedish authorities “if necessary.”
Canu-Bernard condemned media claims suggesting that Mbappé discussed details of his trip to Stockholm. She emphasized that he controls what he says regarding the case.
French outlets, including *Le Parisien* and RMC Sports, reported that Mbappé had consensual sex with a young woman during his visit. The reports state the woman sent him positive messages about their encounter.
*Le Parisien* could not confirm if the complainant in the rape case was the same woman who sent those messages.
Mbappé traveled to Stockholm with friends from October 9 to October 11. He missed France’s Nations League matches due to discomfort in his left thigh. During their stay, the group reportedly visited a restaurant and a nightclub. After they left, a woman approached the police and alleged rape.
On Monday, *Aftonbladet* broke the news about the investigation. This prompted Mbappé to call the report “fake news” on social media. He suggested that the accusations might relate to his financial disputes with former club Paris Saint-Germain.
“It’s becoming so predictable, the day before the hearing, as if by chance,” Mbappé commented on X, formerly Twitter.
A Swedish prosecutor confirmed that an investigation has begun but did not name Mbappé. His lawyer reassured the public, stating that the 2018 World Cup winner is “at ease” because “he has done nothing wrong.”
