NECO Issues Warning Against Proxy Enrollment for Examinations

By   Milcah   Tanimu

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a stern warning to school owners and stakeholders against enrolling candidates for its examinations by proxy.

In a statement released on Monday, Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, emphasized the importance of integrity in the examination process.

Sani noted that these fraudulent practices often lead to identity theft and the issuance of fake results. He reaffirmed NECO’s commitment to eliminating all forms of examination malpractice.

To combat impersonation, NECO has implemented several measures, including:
– Using a Biometric Data Capturing Device
– Introducing customized answer booklets
– Embossing candidates’ photographs and dates of birth on original certificates

Additionally, NECO unveiled the **NECO e-Verify** platform last year, which allows online confirmation and verification of results. The Council declared that any certificate claiming to be issued by NECO that cannot be verified through this platform is fake.

NECO urged State Ministries of Education and school owners to ensure that they register only the personal details of genuine candidates in all NECO-conducted examinations.

Furthermore, candidates who committed impersonation in the recently released 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) had their results withheld. Sani reiterated that this measure supports NECO’s robust policy to combat all forms of examination malpractice.
