Security: Wike gives one week order to rid of beggars in Abuja

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

In a bid to ensure adequate security in Abuja, the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has issued a one-week order to rid of beggars in Abuja.

Wike declared war on beggars on Tuesday at the flag – off of the construction of the Ring Road project in Abuja.

The FCT Minister stated this when he promised to ensure that Abuja can favourably compete with other cities of the world in terms of infrastructure and security.

He said, “In terms of security, let me say clearly now We have declared war on beggars .Abuja is turning into a beggar’s city.”

” Plans are from next week, we will carry them. We will take them out. I mean, it is embarrassing that people who come in, the first thing they see are just beggars on the road.”

“Sometimes too, they may not be beggars. They may be criminals pretending to be beggars. We will not allow that.”

According to the minister, littering of
beggars in the territory is very embarrassing, said, “So I’m giving a public order from now until Sunday, From Monday, we will pack them out. Please let us know that we have a city that we can call a city.”

” We are fighting insecurity. And people will carry plates as if they are begging, maybe they will be informants.”

The minister explained that the administration is not only about putting infrastructure in the city, but it is also about providing security in the territory.

“So please, have it at the back of your mind. That is not only infrastructure. We want to give you good security so you can sleep well with your two eyes closed.”

“I know that some of you may not be happy, Sometimes we don’t need to make you happy.”

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritize the security and well-being of the people with the support of the National Assembly.
