Flood: Governor Ododo Drills Boreholes at IDP Camps to Alleviate Suffering

Kogi State Governor Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo has initiated the drilling of boreholes at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps to alleviate the hardships faced by flood-displaced families. This effort aims to provide access to clean water and reduce the risk of water-borne diseases among the displaced population.

During a briefing on Thursday, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, announced that the Governor directed the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to begin borehole drilling immediately at the IDP camps. This decision was made during Governor Ododo’s visit to several camps, where he also called for additional relief materials to support those affected by the floods.

To ensure the effective distribution of relief materials, the state government has engaged a service provider, Komforte Koncept, to supply essential items to the camps, addressing the urgent needs of the displaced individuals.

The decision to drill boreholes was prompted by the increasing population of IDPs and the challenges resulting from the recent flood disaster. RUWASSA has been given a 48-hour deadline to complete the drilling and installation of necessary equipment to ensure access to clean water for camp residents.

Governor Ododo expressed satisfaction with the service provider’s performance in delivering food, medical supplies, and other essential materials to the IDP camps. He emphasized the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all citizens, assuring that no one would be left behind in the recovery efforts.

Relief materials, including food items, clothing, and medical supplies, have been distributed to the IDP camps to help alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the devastating floods.
