CSO Urges Coordinated Security Measures for 2026 Hajj Pilgrims

By Jabiru Hassan

A civil society organisation, Independent Hajj Reporters, has called on state governments to strengthen and coordinate security arrangements for intending pilgrims ahead of the 2026 Hajj airlift.

The group made the call in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad, and made available to journalists.

According to the organisation, the appeal has become necessary as pre-airlift activities begin across the country, urging authorities to adopt proactive measures to prevent potential security threats.

It stressed the need for proper monitoring of pilgrims’ movements from their homes to orientation centres, transit camps and embarkation points, noting that some pilgrims travel across state lines before departure.

The group urged state governments to work closely with security agencies to establish coordinated security teams that will ensure the safety of pilgrims throughout the pre-Hajj period.

It also advised state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards to sensitise intending pilgrims on basic safety practices, including how to identify potential threats and comply with guidelines issued by Saudi authorities, particularly on the dangers of sharing unverified security information.

The organisation cited the arrest of suspected bandits at Hajj camps during the 2025 pilgrimage as a development that underscores the need for heightened vigilance.

It further cautioned pilgrims against moving in large groups accompanied by non-travelling family members, warning that such actions could expose them to avoidable risks.

The call comes as preparations intensify nationwide for the 2026 Hajj, with stakeholders emphasising the importance of safety, coordination and compliance with both local and international guidelines.
