By Jabiru Hassan, Kano

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hon. Oladotun Olakanle, the Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

In a joint press release signed by Tola Oresanwo, Director of Administration and Programmes at CACOL, on behalf of Debo Adeniran, President of CDHR and Chairman of CACOL, the organizations shared their grief: “We received with shock and regret the unexpected transition of Hon. Oladotun Olakanle, Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA.”

The statement went on to describe the late chairman as “a fine gentleman, a loyal party man, committed democrat, comrade, and public officer with a deep understanding of local government administration, the civic space, and the political landscape.”

Acknowledging the inevitability of death, the organizations reflected on the importance of living each day with purpose and dedication. “We mourn Hon. Olakanle with heavy hearts, not for his accumulation of public wealth, but for his unwavering commitment to service and humanity. He dedicated his life to serving not only his family but the larger community, and his loss will be deeply felt.”

CDHR and CACOL expressed their heartfelt condolences and prayed for strength to cope with the profound loss.
