The Vice-Chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University, Timothy Adejumo, has called on the Federal Government to extend support to private tertiary institutions to help them manage the effects of the current economic challenges in Nigeria.

Adejumo made this appeal during a press conference in Ibadan on Wednesday, as part of the university’s preparations for its third convocation ceremony.

“Private institutions are struggling to cope with the economic situation, as income from student fees no longer covers operational costs,” Adejumo stated. He urged the government to allow private institutions access to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

“Private universities are playing a key role by educating students who might otherwise lack opportunities. The government should not discriminate in providing support. Funding remains a significant challenge for private institutions,” he added.

Looking ahead to the convocation, Adejumo announced that 118 students would be graduating, with 14 achieving First-Class honors, 65 Second-Class Upper, 37 Second-Class Lower, and 2 Third-Class honors. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to developing students with strong character and entrepreneurial skills.
