In a fresh setback, Nigeria’s national power grid collapsed again on Thursday, marking the 10th collapse since the start of 2024. As of 11 a.m., only 2,323 megawatts were being generated from the country’s 22 power plants, before generation dropped to zero megawatts.

Earlier in the day, the grid had peaked at 3,743 MW at 10 a.m., but the sudden collapse left many parts of the country without power. The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the outage, stating:

“Dear Esteemed Customer, we experienced a system outage today, 7 November 2024, at 11:29 a.m., affecting supply within our network. Restoration is ongoing in collaboration with critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has yet to release an official statement on the latest collapse, which is the 11th recorded grid failure in 2024.
