Governor Mutfwang’s Visionary Transformation of Tourism and Agriculture Drives Plateau State’s Economic Growth

Tourism serves as a powerful driver of the global economy, significantly contributing to GDP and creating millions of jobs worldwide. Regions and nations recognize that a thriving tourism sector not only fosters economic growth but also encourages cultural exchange, environmental stewardship, and community development.

In Nigeria, Plateau State is fast becoming a model for this transformation under the visionary leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. Governor Mutfwang has undertaken an ambitious agenda to revitalize Plateau State’s tourism and hospitality industries, aiming to restore its status as Nigeria’s premier tourism destination.

Transparency, integrity, and compassion are at the core of his administration as he seeks to reposition the state on both national and international fronts. Plateau State, known for its unique mountain landscapes and cool climate, was once a favored destination for international visitors in the 1970s. Although interest declined over the years, Governor Mutfwang’s administration is reigniting this legacy.

In his first few months in office, Governor Mutfwang initiated several key projects to rejuvenate the state’s tourism industry. Among his landmark efforts is a partnership with Aviare Global Concepts Limited to transform Plateau Resort and Hotels Limited into a world-class facility. This collaboration is expected to drive job creation, boost internally generated revenue, and attract international visitors, ultimately strengthening Plateau State’s economy.

The official signing of the “Heads of Terms” agreement took place at the Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, with Hon. Danlami Jelka, Managing Director of the Plateau Investment and Property Development Company (PIPC), signing on behalf of the state, and Mr. Kudla Satumari, Chairman of Aviare Global Concepts Limited, signing for the company. This partnership, under the guidance of Governor Mutfwang, is a major milestone in positioning Plateau State as a top tourist destination in Nigeria.

Further underscoring his dedication to tourism development, Governor Mutfwang also entered into an agreement with Strom Infrastructure Investment and Management Limited to restore Jos’s historic Hill Station Hotel to world-class standards. Initial challenges, such as relocating security personnel stationed at the site, have been addressed, allowing the project to progress. The administration is also working to resolve staff disputes, ensuring smooth development at the Hill Station Hotel.

Beyond tourism, Governor Mutfwang has taken significant strides in agriculture. A notable collaboration with Shagaya Agric Ltd aims to establish a large-scale integrated cattle feedlot operation in Zallaki, Bassa Local Government Area. This comprehensive project includes feed production, biodiesel production, and industrial agriculture, aligning with food security goals while helping to mitigate conflicts between farmers and herders.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed with Shagaya Agric Ltd represents a transformative move towards sustainable agriculture. Backed by a team of experts, the initiative will boost beef production, livestock feed, and silage production, while also creating job opportunities and driving economic growth.

Governor Mutfwang’s administration is dedicated to fostering agricultural innovation, with all related projects registered with pertinent state ministries and agencies to attract private investment and ensure smooth implementation.

In just seventeen months, Governor Mutfwang has demonstrated a new model of leadership in Plateau State—one that combines vision with concrete action steps. His initiatives in both tourism and agriculture embody a comprehensive approach to Plateau’s development, rekindling hope and laying a solid foundation for a prosperous future for the state.
