The United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has appointed Henrietta Ugboh as an independent non-executive director, effective immediately. The appointment, which has been approved by the necessary regulatory authorities, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was announced on Wednesday.

This move follows the retirement of Owanari Duke, who has served on the UBA board since 2012. Tony Elumelu, UBA’s chairman, praised Ugboh’s vast experience in commercial banking, credit, and risk management, emphasizing her contribution to strengthening the bank’s corporate governance.

Ugboh, with over 30 years of experience in banking, holds a degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, an MBA from ESUT Business School, and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s executive management programme. She also has a distinguished career with Citibank and is a senior member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and a fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration (FICA).
