NURTW Leadership Crisis: Femi Falana Urges FG to Reinstate Tajudeen Baruwa

Femi Falana, SAN, has called on the federal government to overturn Alhaji Musliu Akinsaya’s inauguration as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). Popularly known as MC Oluomo, Akinsaya’s appointment defied court rulings that declared Comrade Tajudeen Baruwa as the legitimate president.

Falana urged Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi SAN and Inspector-General of Police Dr. Kayode Egbetokun to enforce these court judgments. He stressed that Baruwa lawfully challenged his opponents in court, securing favorable rulings from both the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal.

The National Industrial Court ruled on March 11, 2024, that Baruwa and his executive members held legitimate leadership. On November 8, 2024, the Court of Appeal reaffirmed this decision and dismissed the opposing appeal.

Falana described MC Oluomo’s inauguration as “illegal, null, and void” and demanded immediate compliance with the court’s judgments. He emphasized that restoring Baruwa’s leadership would uphold the union’s integrity and maintain respect for the rule of law.

This NURTW leadership crisis underscores the importance of legal adherence in resolving organizational disputes.
