Kaduna Community Urges CDS Intervention to End Rising Bandit Attacks and Killings

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna
The Dokan Karji Community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State has urgently called on the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, and the Federal Government to deploy military forces to address the escalating insecurity in the region. This appeal follows a series of deadly attacks and kidnappings that have left residents in fear and prompted many to flee their homes.

In a press statement shared by the community’s youth leader, Aminu Khalid, the locals expressed their distress over the ongoing wave of bandit violence, which has intensified over recent months. More than 14 villages have been overrun by bandits, and terrorism continues to plague the area, creating a dire situation for the people of Dokan Karji.

Khalid explained that the attacks, which have been occurring for years, have left the community vulnerable and devastated. Since April 2024, over 50 people have been killed, and more than 170 individuals have been abducted, with some held captive for over six months. The community has paid over N700 million in ransom, yet the threat persists.

“Dokan Karji, once a thriving farming community, has now become a hotspot for banditry. The absence of military presence has emboldened these criminals, leading to frequent kidnappings, killings, and the displacement of countless residents,” Khalid said. He noted that the recent attacks on farmers highlighted the worsening security crisis.

The community leader emphasized that the situation had reached a breaking point, with families enduring ongoing tragedies at the hands of the bandits. He urged the military and federal authorities to act swiftly, stating that the only hope for survival lay in the intervention of security forces.

In his statement, Khalid also commended Lt. Col. Osuake, the Sector 7 Commander, for his tireless efforts to combat banditry in the region. “Col. Osuake has shown great courage in trying to restore peace to our community, and we continue to appreciate his dedication,” Khalid added.

The Dokan Karji community’s call for military intervention reflects the growing desperation for safety and security in the face of persistent violence. The residents are now looking to the Federal Government and military leadership to take decisive action to protect their lives and livelihoods.
