Senator Lalong Bids Farewell to Late Justice Chrysanthus Senlong

Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, has paid a heartfelt tribute to Justice Chrysanthus Senlong, a retired Judge of the Federal High Court, who passed away at the age of 70.

Lalong was among the numerous sympathizers who attended the funeral services at St. Monica Catholic Church, Jos. Speaking at the event, he described the late Justice Senlong as a mentor who significantly shaped his legal career. Reflecting on their relationship, Lalong recounted how Justice Senlong inspired his passion for law during his early years of practice, particularly through arguments presented at the Shendam Magistrate Court in the 1980s.

The Senator highlighted the profound impact Justice Senlong had on his personal and professional journey, describing him as a principled and brilliant lawyer who championed justice, fairness, and truth. He also acknowledged the late Justice’s contributions during his tenure as Governor of Plateau State, where his guidance was pivotal in achieving key milestones in governance.

Justice Senlong, according to Lalong, left an enduring legacy of resilience, diligence, and unwavering commitment to his profession despite the challenges he faced throughout his career.

Tributes from Legal and Judicial Community

The President of the Federal High Court, represented at the funeral, expressed deep mourning over the loss of a colleague who exemplified dedication and excellence in service to the nation. Similarly, the Chief Judge of Plateau State High Court, through a representative, lauded Justice Senlong for mentoring numerous young lawyers who have risen to prominence in the legal field.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria Garba Pwul, another mentee of the late Justice, described him as a man of integrity who treated all with fairness and respect, leaving behind an indelible mark on those who worked with him.

Clergy’s Message

During his homily, the officiating clergy at St. Monica Catholic Church reminded attendees of the inevitability of death, urging everyone to live with purpose and preparedness, as exemplified by Justice Senlong’s impactful life.

Following the funeral Mass, Senator Lalong joined other mourners for the final interment at Justice Senlong’s hometown, Dokan Kasuwa, in Shendam Local Government Area.
