NNPCL Commits to Boosting Local Content in Nigeria’s Energy Sector

By  Milcah   Tanimu

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reiterated its dedication to enhancing local content development in Nigeria’s energy sector. Speaking at the 13th Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) Forum in Bayelsa State, Group Chief Executive Officer Mallam Mele Kyari, represented by Executive Vice President, Upstream, Udobong Ntia, emphasized the forum’s role in fostering growth and innovation.

Kyari highlighted the transformative impact of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010, which positioned local businesses for global competitiveness. He urged stakeholders to leverage initiatives from the PNC forum to strengthen Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Focusing on sustainability, Kyari stressed the importance of empowering local firms, adopting advanced technologies, and building partnerships. He referenced the 2024 Presidential Directive on Local Content Compliance, underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritizing local content as part of its national strategy.

This year’s forum, themed *“Defining the Next Frontier for Nigerian Content Implementation,”* brought together key industry stakeholders, including government officials and energy leaders, to explore strategies for advancing local content.

Kyari outlined NNPCL’s initiatives, including the restructuring of NNPC Exploration and Production Ltd (NEPL) and the evolution of NNPC Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO) into a full-scale engineering firm. He encouraged participants to collaborate, share ideas, and drive Nigeria toward energy self-sufficiency.

The forum, hosted by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), continues to serve as a crucial platform for fostering sustainable growth in Nigeria’s energy sector.
