Ekiti Guber: Fayose Calls for Innovation and New Direction in Governance

By Abigail Philip David

Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, a businessman and governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, has emphasized the need for a shift towards innovation and a new direction in governance to drive the state’s development.

In a statement issued through his media office in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose commended past governors for their contributions to the state’s growth since its creation in 1996 but highlighted the urgency for fresh ideas to reposition Ekiti for sustainable growth, self-reliance, and a thriving digital economy.

Reflecting on the state’s current challenges, Fayose warned that without innovation and a renewed approach, Ekiti risks stagnation.

Focus on Technological and Human Capital Development

“Ekiti must embrace a new way of doing things,” Fayose stated. “Development worldwide is driven by innovations in technology, IT, and crafts. Ekiti State cannot afford to be left behind.”

He proposed a people-centered strategy, focusing on human capital development through modernizing the education sector. Fayose suggested upgrading schools with advanced teaching resources and introducing digital tools such as tablets preloaded with accredited courses and syllabuses for primary and secondary students.

Beyond formal education, Fayose stressed the importance of vocational training and practical learning to equip citizens with skills for self-reliance.

“Globally, the emphasis is on vocational training and hands-on learning. We must move beyond the theoretical approaches currently in place,” he said.

### **Agriculture and Wealth Creation**

Fayose also underscored the need to leverage Ekiti’s agricultural potential to boost employment and tackle insecurity, poverty, and food shortages.

“Agriculture remains a key driver of wealth and employment. By improving and innovating our agricultural production, we can eradicate these pressing challenges,” he added.

### **Acknowledging Past Leadership**

Fayose acknowledged the contributions of previous governors to Ekiti’s development, describing their efforts as foundational.

“They have done their best, and Ekiti State remains grateful to them. Now, it’s time to chart a new course—one centered on innovation, wealth creation, and sustainable progress,” Fayose concluded.

A Call for Change

As Ekiti moves toward the next election, Fayose’s vision underscores the importance of embracing technological advancements and modern governance strategies to secure a prosperous future for the state and its people.
