Nigeria Aims to Become Leading Agricultural Exporter by 2025 – Tinubu

By Abigail Philip David

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering citizens as key drivers of economic growth. Speaking at the launch of the “Earn from the Soil” campaign during the National Convergence for the Renewed Hope Agenda in Abuja, Tinubu outlined his vision to transform Nigeria into a leading agricultural export nation by 2025.

Represented by the Minister of Regional Development, Mr. Abubakar Momoh, Tinubu described the initiative as a bold step toward leveraging Nigeria’s non-oil resources for collective prosperity. The *Earn from the Soil* project, he explained, is designed to transition subsistence farming into an export-oriented, economically robust sector.

“This project is more than just a food security initiative; it’s a catalyst for turning our agricultural sector into a driver of economic opportunities,” Tinubu said.

He emphasized the need for strategic partnerships instead of traditional aid, calling on both local and foreign investors to explore opportunities in the South-South region and beyond.

“We are creating an ecosystem of opportunity, innovation, and sustainable growth. Our young people and women, in particular, must seize this chance to become self-reliant. Their energy, creativity, and determination will fuel Nigeria’s economic transformation,” Tinubu added.

The President outlined his administration’s vision of positioning Nigeria as a global leader in agricultural exports by 2025, pledging full support for the *Earn from the Soil* initiative.

The event also marked the unveiling of the National Convergence for the Renewed Hope Agenda, a strategic framework aimed at harnessing the South-South region’s vast resources for national development. Tinubu highlighted the region’s potential, noting its wealth in natural resources beyond oil and gas, as well as its rich cultural heritage and extraordinary human capacity.

“When properly harnessed, the South-South region can symbolize the transformative potential of Nigeria,” Tinubu stated.

Gift Johnbull, the Presidential Lead on Community Engagement for the South-South, described the convergence as a platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration. She called on investors and business leaders to recognize the region’s untapped potential and partner in unlocking opportunities that could benefit not only Nigeria but the entire African continent.

“This is a call to action for everyone to play their part in shaping the future of the South-South and Nigeria at large,” Johnbull said.
