Northern Activist Mahdi Shehu Reportedly Arrested by DSS Over Alleged Fake Video

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Northern-based activist Mahdi Shehu, known for his outspoken criticism of bad governance, has reportedly been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to sources, Shehu was detained over the weekend in connection with a viral fake video, which allegedly threatened national security. The video falsely accused the Nigerian government of plans to establish a French military base in the North-West.

One source confirmed, “Mahdi Shehu is being held in Kaduna. He may be arraigned in court on Monday or in the near future.”

The activist’s arrest followed an unsuccessful attempt to address the issue surrounding the viral video. DSS operatives have been instructed to ensure Shehu’s rights are respected while in custody.

Authorities have already issued clear instructions for Shehu’s arraignment, as reported by Solace Base online on December 29, 2024.
