Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has been honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by U.S. President Joe Biden, recognizing his outstanding contributions on and off the field.
Messi was among 19 distinguished individuals celebrated with the prestigious accolade, the highest civilian honor in the United States. The award is given to those who have made exemplary contributions to the nation’s prosperity, values, security, global peace, or other significant societal achievements.
Through the Leo Messi Foundation, the global football icon supports healthcare and education initiatives for children worldwide and serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, underscoring his commitment to humanitarian causes.
Ahead of the ceremony, Messi expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition, calling it a “profound privilege.” However, due to scheduling conflicts, he was unable to attend the event but conveyed his appreciation and hopes to meet President Biden in the near future.
