Bode George Slams Lagos Elders for Failing to Address State Issues in Meeting with Tinubu

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), criticized Lagos elders after their recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu. George believes the elders missed a chance to address the state’s most urgent issues.

In a sharp statement, George expressed disappointment that the elders focused on issues like the takeover of King’s College, instead of more pressing matters. These include the state’s crumbling infrastructure, rising unemployment, and widespread poverty.

Prioritizing Secondary Issues

George emphasized that the meeting gave the elders a chance to advocate for Lagos residents. Instead, they focused on secondary concerns. They ignored the neglected municipal roads near the Oba of Lagos’ palace. These include Jankara Market and Idumagbo, which have been in disrepair for over 20 years.

“The elders, prominent Lagosians from Lagos Island, should have raised concerns about infrastructure and markets,” George said.

Unemployment and Poverty in Focus

George also pointed to the high unemployment and poverty levels among the youth in Lagos. He called on the government to act quickly. Job creation and skills programs would help alleviate young people’s suffering.

Criticism of Economic Reforms

George criticized President Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly the rising fuel prices. He urged the government to reduce fuel costs and ensure Nigerians benefit from locally refined products.

A Call for Action

“The elders’ visit offered a chance to highlight the critical issues in Lagos and Nigeria. Unfortunately, they missed it, leaving Lagosians disappointed,” George concluded.

He urged both the government and Lagos leaders to focus on reforms that tackle infrastructure decay and improve citizens’ lives.
