El-Rufai Calls Kaduna Governor a ‘Sycophant’ Over Tinubu’s N150bn Support

By Abigail Philip David

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has criticized his successor, Governor Uba Sani, accusing him of excessive loyalty to President Bola Tinubu due to financial support received from the Federal Government.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, El-Rufai mocked Governor Sani, suggesting that his public praise for Tinubu stems from the **over N150 billion** in federal reimbursements, interventions, and grants selectively given to Kaduna State in the last 18 months.

El-Rufai’s post, tagged **#ConcernedKadunaCitizen**, included a cryptic reference to the British TV series *Sherlock Holmes* before taking direct aim at Governor Sani.

“Every day I see this governor embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling, I used to wonder why,” El-Rufai wrote. “However, confirming that Federal Government ‘reimbursements, interventions, and grants’ in excess of N150bn have been given selectively to Kaduna by Tinubu in the last 18 months now explains everything.”

His comments were in response to a recent TV interview where Governor Sani praised President Tinubu’s administration and dismissed any coalition planning to challenge the government in the 2027 elections.

El-Rufai concluded his post with a sarcastic remark: “By all means, defend Asiwaju for the conditional cash transfer. Asiwaju has earned it, coming from you. The people of Kaduna State will judge at the right time and place. Have a nice day.”

The exchange highlights growing tensions between the two political figures, both former allies within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
