Monitor influx of Almajiris, others, Wike orders security committee

The FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike has ordered the set up of a Security Committee to monitor the influx of Almajiris
and other persons entering the capital Territory.
Also, the minister had ordered the profiling of such persons to safeguard the security of the nation’s capital.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, disclosed this on Tuesday after a security meeting with security agencies, and chairmen of the six area councils in Abuja.
CP Disu said that the expanded security meeting which was chaired by the FCT minister focused on the issue of influx of people into the Federal Capital Territory, especially the Almajiri and other persons who may pose security risk to the territory.

He said,”The Minister, at the end of the meeting, agreed, or rather directed a committee, is set up by us, and then he awaits the outcome of it in two weeks.”
The CP also said that persons coming into the city and communities would be profiled , adding that already five people posing security risks and have been arrested while investigations is ongoing.

Speaking further, he said, the committee is going to work with the Area Council Chairman for them to identify Islamic schools where these children are being brought in to learn, to profile those organizing these schools, to have the pictures, full numbers of people organizing these groups, and for them to work out means of working with them in the future.”

“Also, to probably to find out what the government can do to ensure that they are kept in check, and to find out the content of the training they are giving these students in their various schools . ”

The members of the committee are members of the main security operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, the Nigerian police, the Nigerian army, the DSS, and the NSCDC.
