EFCC asks Court to dismiss James Nolan bail application

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday asked Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to dismiss the application for bail variety recorded by the British national, James Nolan.

The EFCC counsel, Bala Sanga, who made the solicitation, said the counter join office would record a counter-testimony on the Briton’s application.

As per Sanga, the respondent’s insight, Chris Ezugwu, served on him the further sworn statement, looking for the court’s leave to give their solicitation on Wednesday.

He said: “I apply for a shift in the date to take our arguments, My Lord, in order to enable us to file a counter-affidavit in response to further affidavit served on us less than 24 hours before the court sitting.

“We were served about 2:00 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday).”

The indictment counsel, in this way, supplicated the court to allow him a few days to document his counter-sworn statement on Nolan’s solicitation.

The respondent’s advice who recognized serving the crisp application on Sanga the earlier day, questioned the EFCC’s supplication for dismissal.

Equity Abang, from that point, suspended continuing till December 6 for further knowing about the application.

He said the move was essential for the enthusiasm of equity.

Justice Abang said: “I think it is in the interest of justice to adjourn this matter to enable the prosecution respond to further affidavit serve on them by the defendant’s counsel.”

Shortly after the court sitting, Sanga told journalists that the Commission was against Nolan’s plea for bail variation because of the peculiar circumstances of the case.

He said: “We are opposed to the court making the conditions of bail lighter because there are some documents from Nigeria Immigration Service that are indicative of the fact that Nolan committed immigration quota trafficking and possibly could be illegal alien.”

The EFCC’s legal advisor focused on Nolan may hop bail if the solicitation is conceded.

Judge Abang had on November 7 conceded Nolan bail in the total of N500 million.

The judge likewise requested the candidate to create a surety who must be a Nigerian and a serving representative not standing any criminal preliminary in any court in Nigeria.
