FCT-IRS gets N43.8Bn from tax payments in January

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT- IRS said it got a total of 43.8 billion Naira in January 2025 from tax payments in the FCT.

The FCT- IRS Acting Chairman, Micheal Ango, stated this on Thursday at the annual sensitization roadshow in the FCT.
Angos stated that the tax agency is on track to double its efforts in February.

He said, “The taxes are collected from taxpayers and the residents of Abuja. The taxes that we collect in FCT, we collect personal income tax, we collect capital gains taxes from individuals, we collect stamp duties from individuals, we collect property taxes, we collect entertainment.”

He said that the aim of the annual roadshow campaign, which involves a lot of dancing, clapping, and, gyration, is a way of communicating with residents.

It is an annually campaign when we come out to speak to our residents, to speak to our taxpayers one-on-one where they are. We decide to go and meet them in their businesses, in their shops, and on the streets.
But the reality is that we’re carrying a very serious message, and the serious message is that Abuja residents need to contribute to building a world-class city, he noted.

He explained that FCT- IRS essentially exists as an agency of the Federal Capital Territory Administration to collect revenues which are due to the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
However, he disclosed that the agency has 16 tax offices in the city , but it is planning to expand offices in some areas where there is no presence of the agency by setting up kiosk offices in the major plazas and markets within the city.

“We have another deadline coming up in another 30 days or so, which is the individual annual returns. The law mandates every person, whether in employment or not, to file their annual income tax returns by the 31st of March every year.
Speaking on acts of defaulters, Ango promised that the tax agency will have to sanction defaulters of individual annual tax who fail to fill their returns by March 31, 2025.
