Tuggar Criticizes UN’s Inaction on Sudan, Sahel Conflicts

By Abigail Philip David

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has strongly criticized the United Nations for its lack of decisive action in addressing ongoing conflicts in Sudan and the Sahel region. Speaking on the issue, Tuggar expressed concerns that the global system, once regarded as a foundation for international cooperation, is now failing to effectively respond to the needs of many countries, particularly those facing severe crises.

He highlighted the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel and Sudan, where violence, political instability, and humanitarian challenges continue to escalate. According to Tuggar, the failure of multilateral institutions, especially the UN, to take swift and concrete action has worsened the plight of affected nations. He stressed that while diplomatic engagement and resolutions are being discussed, they have not translated into meaningful interventions on the ground.

The minister emphasized the need for a more responsive and proactive international approach to conflict resolution, urging the UN and other global bodies to take stronger measures to support peace efforts, stability, and humanitarian aid in these troubled regions. He also called for reforms in global governance to ensure that international organizations are more effective in addressing pressing global challenges.

Tuggar’s remarks reflect growing frustration among African nations over the perceived inefficiency of the international community in handling regional conflicts. His comments serve as a call to action for stronger, more coordinated responses to the crises affecting Sudan, the Sahel, and beyond.
