Sokoto L-PRES Officially Presents Machinery and Inputs to Sedentarized Pastoral Communities

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has officially handed over machinery, distributed inputs, and administered Albendazole to three sedentarized pastoral communities in Sokoto.

Among the machinery presented were one chopper and crusher for each community, along with 300 pieces of 2 kg salt lick and 300 pieces of 1-liter molasses.

Additionally, ruminant feed prepared during a demonstration session was distributed to participants and other community members for feeding trials.

As part of the activity, Albendazole suspension was administered to all eligible ruminant animals in the communities to enhance their health and productivity.

Speaking at the event, State Project Coordinator Sirajo Abubakar, represented by Animal Husbandry Officer Mal. Kabiru Yusuf Muhammad, stated that the initiative aims to support these communities through the provision of water facilities, capacity building, and the introduction of new technologies.

He emphasized that adopting these innovations would improve livestock productivity and help mitigate farmer-herder conflicts in the region and the state at large.

The coordinator further noted that each of the sedentarized pastoral communities is expected to receive further attention from the project, ensuring they become part of the target beneficiaries.

In her remarks, Dr. Asma’u Muhammad Bashir, leader of the third-party monitoring team, expressed satisfaction with the commitment demonstrated by both L-PRES and the communities, which contributed to the successful completion of the exercise.

She also urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the knowledge and resources provided, utilizing them for their benefit and that of their communities.
