NCPC, CAN Perform Groundbreaking of Ecumenical Airport Chapel, Pilgrim Centre in Abuja

By Joyce Remi- Babayeju

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in collaboration with the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), has performed a milestone groundbreaking ceremony of the Ecumenical Airport Chapel and Pilgrim Centre at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The event attracted an array of prominent Christian leaders, government officials, and traditional rulers, marking a significant milestone as the first interdenominational chapel and pilgrim centre to be sited within a Nigerian airport.

This was contained in a press release signed and issued by Celestine Toruka, NCPC Director of Media and Public Relations.

The facility is designed to cater to the spiritual needs of travelers and pilgrims.

Nigeria’s former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, delivered the Bible reading at the ceremony, while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, served as Chief Host.

Other dignitaries present included the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Binos Yaroe; the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who facilitated the allocation of land for the project; former Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen; and former SGF, Boss Mustapha.

Also in attendance were the CAN President, Daniel Okoh, who hosted the event, and the Methodist Archbishop of Abuja, Michael Akinwale, who delivered the exhortation.

The Executive Secretary of NCPC, Stephen Adegbite, was represented by members of the commission’s top management.

Traditional rulers were led by Oba Rasheed Ladoja.

The Ecumenical Airport Chapel and Pilgrim Centre is expected to be completed by October 2026, as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of CAN, the release stated.
