WILN Demands Urgent Action to Close Gender Gaps on International Women’s Day

…Calls for tangible reforms to accelerate inclusion in leadership and economic opportunities
…Says investment in women is key to a stronger and more equitable society[/b]

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, the Women’s Inclusion and Leadership Network (WILN), has issued a strong call for immediate and tangible reforms to accelerate gender inclusion in leadership, politics, and economic opportunities.

In a statement signed on Saturday, Amarachi Okeke, Convener and Executive Director of WILN, emphasized that this year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” is a direct call to dismantle barriers and create real pathways for women’s empowerment across all sectors.

“As women, we deserve more than words and empty promises. We need policies and actions that ensure equal access, representation, and inclusion,” she stated.

WILN stressing that investment in women is a strategic necessity, highlighting the direct correlation between gender equality and economic prosperity, called on policymakers, corporate leaders, and institutions to prioritize equal representation in leadership and decision-making positions, increased funding for women-led businesses and initiatives, strong legal frameworks to protect women’s rights and eliminate workplace discrimination, and access to quality education and skills development programs for young girls.

The statement also recognized the resilience of women who continue to break barriers despite societal challenges, describing them as the driving force behind progress and development.

The network, further commended male allies who actively support gender inclusion, acknowledging their role in creating a more equitable society.

“No one regrets investing in women. Such action strengthens economies, families, and communities. Governments and private sector leaders must accelerate gender-focused policies that translate commitments into measurable progress.”

Acknowledging global discussions on gender equity, WILN insists that the time for symbolic gestures is over. Only bold, immediate, and sustained action will lead to true gender inclusion and empowerment.
