Sokoto Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Islamic Development

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing Islamic activities across the state during the commissioning of the renovated Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Jumu’at Mosque in Sokoto.

The mosque’s renovation and upgrade aim to provide a conducive environment for worship and community engagement, reflecting the state government’s dedication to preserving Islamic heritage and promoting Islamic values. The renovation of Jumu’at mosques across the state is nearly complete, with several already commissioned, including the Sheik Ayuba Musa Lukuwa, Sheik Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, Ruggar Waru, Wamakko Central, and Yabo Central Jumu’at Mosques.

Governor Aliyu emphasized, “This project is part of our efforts to provide environments conducive to worship and community activities, while promoting Islamic values and social cohesion among our people.” His administration has been working closely with Islamic leaders to identify key needs and develop initiatives aimed at supporting the Islamic community and fostering unity.

The governor’s remarks also highlighted his commitment to enhancing Islamic education and providing necessary support to institutions offering quality education grounded in Islamic principles. Additionally, the state government revived the Hisbah board to promote moral uprightness, focusing on combating social vices such as gambling, prostitution, and drug abuse.

The Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Jumu’at Mosque was officially commissioned by Professor Matbuli Shehu Kabara of Bayaro University, who also led the two raka’at Jumu’at prayer. Professor Kabara commended the state government for its efforts to preserve Islamic heritage and foster a better environment for worship.

Dr. Jabir Maihulla, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, also praised the governor for his proactive stance on promoting Islamic activities. Similarly, Dr. Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, the Minister of Labour and Employment, lauded Governor Aliyu’s initiatives, highlighting the positive impact these efforts will have on the people of Sokoto State and their broader socio-economic development.
