The Kebbi State Government has confirmed that a suspected outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis has killed 26 people in Aliero, Gwandu, and Jega local government areas.

Cerebrospinal meningitis is a severe infection that causes inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It is typically caused by bacteria or viruses and spreads through close contact.

Common symptoms include fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. Without prompt treatment, the disease can lead to severe complications or death.

Health authorities in Kebbi have urged residents to take preventive measures and seek medical attention immediately if they experience any symptoms.
