Another look at Daura as Buhari breaks ground for Transport University

Daura, town is an ancient town and emirate, in Katsina state, northern Nigeria.

It is regarded as the spiritual home of the Hausa people.

It stretches across the borders of present-day Nigeria and Niger.

As a result of its strategic location Daura was a caravan centre for salt and potash from the Sahara Desert and for cloth, slaves, leather, and agricultural produce from the south.

Today local trade in Daura town is primarily in sorghum, millet, onions, peanuts (groundnuts), cotton, and hides and skins; cattle, goats, sheep, horses, and donkeys are kept by its Hausa and Fulani inhabitants. Cotton weaving and peanut collecting (for export) are significant economic activities.

The town is the headquarters Sandamu local government Council of Katsina state.
