Angry protesters on Wednesday shut down the Ondo State Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, Akure, following the killing of five more farmers by suspected armed herdsmen at Aba Oyinbo in Akure North Local Government Area.
The victims were reportedly shot dead in the early hours of Wednesday during another attack by the assailants.
Outraged by the state government’s perceived inaction over the continued killings, protesters stormed the Governor’s Office, bringing along the bodies of the deceased to highlight the brutality of the invasion.
The protest also caused major traffic disruptions along the Akure-Owo Road, as demonstrators barricaded the highway at Ogbese, leaving commuters and motorists stranded.
Ongoing Security Crisis
This latest attack comes just two weeks after a similar massacre of 20 farmers across four farm settlements in the same Akure North Local Government Area by suspected herdsmen.
Residents are calling for urgent government intervention to curb the growing insecurity in the region.
