JUST IN: Police Ban Emir Sanusi II from Organizing Sallah Durbar in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has prohibited all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

The announcement was made on Friday by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters.

CP Bakori emphasized that the decision aims to ensure a peaceful and secure environment throughout the festivities. He assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard worshippers at designated Eid prayer grounds.

“As we celebrate, let us prioritize peace. It is crucial that we set aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” CP Bakori stated.

He urged worshippers to adhere to security guidelines, such as avoiding the possession of suspicious items. Additionally, he reinforced a strict ban on horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving during the festive period.

The Commissioner also advised parents and guardians to caution their children against being influenced by individuals seeking to disrupt public order. He urged residents to remain cooperative with security agencies and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Reports indicate that the Kano annual Durbar, a cherished cultural event featuring colorful horse parades and traditional displays, has not been held since 2024, when an emirate leadership dispute began. However, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had planned to reinstate the event following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s directive for its return this year.
