Police Rescue Kidnapped Israeli Engineer in Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and local hunters, has successfully rescued an Israeli engineer, Gil Itamar, who was kidnapped in Takum Local Government Area on Thursday.

Itamar was abducted by armed men in Atim Community, along the Takum/Chanchangi Road, while under military escort.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP James Lashen, stated that the police received a distress call at about 10:30 AM and immediately sprang into action with military personnel and local security forces in the Takum area.

“On April 3, 2025, at about 10:30 AM, we received a call from Alhaji Saidu, a staff member of SCC Company in Takum, reporting that at 9:15 AM, Mr. Gil Itamar, an Israeli and SCC employee, was kidnapped by armed hoodlums at Atim Community while being escorted by the military,” Lashen said.

Upon receiving the alert, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Takum Division, alongside officers from 67 PMF, military personnel, and local hunters, launched a coordinated rescue mission.

“A swift cordon, search, and rescue operation led to the successful recovery of the victim at Kofai Ahmadu, following a fierce gun battle. The kidnappers were forced to retreat and abandon their hostage,” the PPRO added.

Itamar was immediately taken to SCC Company’s medical facility in Takum for evaluation.

Meanwhile, security operatives have intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.
