Tension as Female Christian Convert Faces Sharia Court Friday

…Urgent Appeal for Intervention
By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

KADUNA – Tension is mounting in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, as a female convert to Christianity, Miss Zainab Muhamadu, is set to appear before a Sharia Court on Friday, allegedly for renouncing Islam—a development that has triggered concern among human rights and Christian advocacy groups.

According to reports circulated by Christian organizations seeking support, Zainab’s ordeal began after she encountered an NYSC member, Samuel, who is also a pastor. Unlike others she had met, Samuel reportedly refrained from making sexual advances and instead shared his Christian faith, which eventually influenced her conversion.

“Zainab’s journey to Christianity began when she met Samuel, an NYSC member and pastor, who treated her with respect and shared the gospel with her,” the statement read. “Upon discovery of her new faith, Zainab faced severe consequences, including threats and legal action.”

Her trial before the Sharia Court is scheduled for this Friday, prompting fears about the fairness of the proceedings, especially considering the religious composition of local authorities in Zamfara State. Advocacy groups have expressed concern that her constitutional rights to freedom of religion may not be fully upheld.

“In light of this, an urgent call is being made for prayers and support from Christians across the country,” the statement continued. “There is also a pressing need to support Samuel, who is under immense pressure and requires guidance on how to navigate the situation.”

Efforts are reportedly underway to argue that Zainab, now a Christian, should not be subject to Sharia jurisdiction. However, observers note that strong backing from legal, civil rights, and religious organizations is essential to ensure both Zainab and Samuel receive protection and due process.

The appeal concluded by urging churches and concerned individuals to pray and advocate for justice, while noting that contact details of those involved in coordinating support efforts could not be disclosed publicly. “Please DM me for further details,” it added.
