NAF Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment to Safeguarding Nigeria’s Airspace

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) firm commitment to defending the nation’s airspace and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Nigeria.

Speaking during the Second Quarter Route March held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in Abuja, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that the protection of Nigerians remains the Air Force’s top priority.

“We will continue to defend every inch of Nigeria’s airspace and play our part in joint operations to protect lives and property across the country,” the CAS stated, according to a release by NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
“Your protection is not just a duty—it is our highest priority.”

Issuing a stern warning to enemies of the state, including insurgents, terrorists, and bandits, the Air Chief vowed that such elements would be relentlessly pursued.

“There will be no hiding place for those who threaten Nigeria’s peace and stability. We are coming for you. We will find you—and take you out,” he declared.

Operational Readiness and Fitness Now Mandatory

Highlighting the vital role of physical preparedness, the CAS announced that physical fitness would be a mandatory criterion for all personnel going forward.

“Physical fitness is no longer optional. It is a non-negotiable requirement. All Performance Evaluation Reports must now include a Physical Fitness Test Certificate. No officer will be promoted without being medically and physically fit,” he asserted.

To support this policy, Air Marshal Abubakar revealed the NAF had approved the construction of modern sports facilities at various bases and would soon distribute advanced gym equipment to over 22 units nationwide.

Marching Toward Purpose and Victory

Reflecting on the symbolism of the route march, the CAS likened it to the broader journey toward national security and peace, marked by discipline, focus, and resilience.

“Let today’s route march remind us of who we are and what we stand for. We are not just marching on roads—we are marching toward purpose, honour, and victory,” he charged.

Show of Strength and Solidarity

The quarterly route march, conducted simultaneously across all NAF units, aims to foster camaraderie, build endurance, and maintain the level of physical conditioning essential for modern military operations. It also serves as a visible show of force, demonstrating the NAF’s readiness, capability, and resolve to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Appreciation to the Presidency

In closing, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continuous support to the Armed Forces, particularly in enhancing operational capacity and improving personnel welfare.

“We appreciate Mr. President’s unwavering commitment to equipping and empowering our forces. His support continues to be a key driver of our effectiveness,” he said.

With this renewed focus on preparedness and professionalism, the Nigerian Air Force remains steadfast in its mission to protect the skies—and the people—of Nigeria.
