Dangote Names Refinery Access Road After President Tinubu, Commends His Role in Project’s Realisation

Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced that the main access road leading to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals complex will now be named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in recognition of his instrumental role in the project’s conception and execution.

The announcement came during President Tinubu’s visit to the refinery on Thursday, June 5, 2025, which also marked the official commissioning of the Lekki Deep Sea Port Access Road. Dangote praised Tinubu for his enduring support of private sector-led development and credited him with initiating the Lekki Free Trade Zone during his time as Governor of Lagos State, a move that laid the foundation for the refinery’s development.

“The Dangote Refinery complex is, in many ways, your brainchild,” Dangote said. “Mr President, let me just say one thing — the main road leading into our refinery is now to be known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road.”

The declaration drew applause from dignitaries present, with President Tinubu rising to shake hands with Dangote in a symbolic moment of appreciation.

Dangote Group Commits N900 Billion to Road Infrastructure

Despite remitting ₦450 billion in taxes last year, Dangote disclosed that the Group is investing ₦900 billion into road infrastructure projects across Nigeria. The Deep Sea Port Access Road is one of several projects being undertaken through the Federal Government’s Tax Credit Scheme.

He noted that the Dangote Group is Nigeria’s largest tax contributor, surpassing all banks combined, and is actively involved in eight major road projects spanning 500km, including vital links in Borno State that will eventually connect Nigeria to Chad and Cameroon.

Dangote described President Tinubu as “a courageous leader” whose administration has restored private sector confidence and encouraged significant investments in infrastructure.

Tinubu Praises Dangote Refinery as a “Phenomenal Project”

Commissioning the new concrete road linking the Lekki Deep Sea Port to key trade routes, President Tinubu described the Dangote Petroleum Refinery as a “phenomenal project of our time”, and a testament to Nigeria’s industrial potential.

“Having inspected the Dangote refinery, which is a great point of reference, a great phenomenon of our time, and a massive investment, I want to thank Aliko Dangote,” the President said.

He added that the Lekki Deep Sea Port, which he initiated as Lagos State governor, has proven to be a strategic success, saving businesses considerable costs by eliminating the need for trans-shipment of goods. He also commended the quality of work by Dangote Industries Limited and its subcontractor, Hitech Construction Company Limited, under the tax credit scheme.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building durable, investor-friendly infrastructure across the country, lauding the synergy between public leadership and private enterprise as a pathway to national development.
