2Face laments rising insecurity in his home state, Benue

Award-winning singer Innocent “2Face” Idibia has voiced his anguish over the rising wave of violence and insecurity in his home state of Benue, describing the situation as a “national emergency.”

His emotional outcry comes in the wake of a brutal overnight attack on Yelwata, a border community between Benue and Nasarawa states, where suspected herdsmen reportedly killed dozens of residents on Friday, June 16. The assault, which began around 10 p.m., lasted into the early hours of Saturday with no visible resistance from security forces.

In a video posted online, a visibly distraught 2Face condemned the repeated bloodshed, urging leaders and citizens across the country to treat the crisis with the urgency it demands.

“My heart is heavy, terribly sad, terribly angry,” he said. “What is going on in Benue State has become a national emergency. It’s no longer enough to just condemn these killings. This has to stop! It’s business as usual every time—condemn and move on. But this is beyond child’s play now. It’s becoming ridiculous!”

He continued, “I don’t even know where to express my grief and frustration anymore. Every time, we call on the governor, the president, and nothing changes. This isn’t funny anymore. Enough is enough—serious action must begin.”

2Face’s emotional appeal has added to the growing chorus of voices calling for decisive intervention to halt the bloodshed and restore peace to Benue State and other affected regions.
