Super Eagles Captain Ahmed Musa Tasks Political Leaders On Benue Killings

Captain of the Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa, has called on Nigerian political leaders to take urgent and decisive steps to end the persistent violence in Benue State.

Musa, in a statement posted on his X handle, expressed deep concern over the recent massacre in the state, describing it as “another wave of heartbreaking killings.” He stressed that the time for mere condemnation was over, and demanded real action to protect lives.

“How many more lives must be lost before real action is taken? We can’t keep condemning violence and then moving on. Don’t wait until it happens close to home or to someone you know — speak out now,” the former Leicester City forward wrote.

He further challenged leaders to show commitment beyond political campaigns, noting, “Governance is not just for election season. We need consistent action, not seasonal appearances. We demand more. We deserve better. Benue deserves peace. Nigeria deserves better.”

Musa also extended his condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for strength and healing for those affected.

The latest attack reportedly claimed over 200 lives in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area, with many of the victims believed to be internally displaced persons sheltering at a Catholic mission.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State confirmed that the assailants, suspected to be armed herders, infiltrated the area via a river, launching coordinated assaults on security checkpoints before attacking the community.

In response to the crisis, President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Benue State on Wednesday to assess the situation and offer federal intervention.
