Tinubu Hosts Fubara, Wike, Rivers Lawmakers in Fresh Push for Peace

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday convened a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders from Rivers State as part of renewed efforts to end the protracted crisis in the state.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, brought together suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other members of the state legislature.

The dialogue is the latest in a series of interventions since March 18, 2025, when Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State amid rising insecurity and a breakdown in cooperation between key arms of government. That declaration saw the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly.

Thursday’s meeting is believed to be part of a broader reconciliation plan aimed at restoring stability to the state.

Photographs from the session showed Tinubu seated alongside Fubara, Wike, and the lawmakers, underscoring the significance of the gathering.

Prior to the Villa meeting, reports indicated that Fubara had also met privately with Amaewhule and other lawmakers in Abuja. Sources described the encounter as cordial, with Fubara and Amaewhule seen exchanging smiles and holding hands, signalling possible progress toward peace.
