Governor Yusuf Empowers 1,130 Kano Youths

By Jabiru Hassan

KANO — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has disbursed empowerment packages to 1,130 graduates from six entrepreneurship skills institutes in Kano State, in a renewed effort to boost job creation and youth self-reliance.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor presented the packages during a ceremony at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

Governor Yusuf described the initiative as a step toward rekindling hope, restoring dreams, and unlocking youth potential for innovation and economic growth. He recalled that the institutes, established during the administration of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, were shut down by the previous government but have now been revived to equip young people with practical skills.

“Each graduate is leaving here not only with a certificate but also with an empowerment package relevant to their field,” the governor said, adding that the support — which includes tools and seed capital — will help reduce unemployment, curb restiveness, and promote self-reliance.

The empowerment packages included:

  • 250 graduates of the Informatics Institute, Kura — laptops and phone repair kits.
  • 140 graduates of the Livestock Institute, Bagauda — bulls, feed, and veterinary medication.
  • 250 graduates of the Driving Institute, Kumbotso — driving licences and certificates.
  • 200 graduates of the Horticulture Institute, Bagauda — modern gardening tools.
  • 200 graduates of the Fisheries Institute, Bagauda — fingerlings, weighing scales, and tarpaulin ponds.
  • 90 graduates of the Film Institute, Tiga — digital cameras.

Senator Kwankwaso, represented by NNPP National Chairman Dr. Ahmad Ajuji, praised the revival of the institutes and wished the graduates success. The Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Munir Sanusi, commended Governor Yusuf’s “purposeful leadership” aimed at advancing the state.
