Langtang North Council Boss Raises Alarm Over Fake Drugs

By Israel Adamu, Jos

The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council in Plateau State, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, has expressed concern over the rising circulation of fake and substandard drugs in the area.

Tyem raised the alarm on Sunday after his investiture as Battalion Grand Patron of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) RCC Headquarters, Kuffen.

He disclosed that the council’s supervisory councillor for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene recently intercepted a cache of counterfeit medicines. Sharing his personal experience, Tyem said he once fell ill but the drugs administered to him were ineffective because they were fake.

“I am fortunate that the drugs I took did not damage any vital organs. My administration is committed to revamping the health sector, and anyone caught selling fake drugs in the council will be dealt with,” he stated.

The chairman stressed that health and education remain top priorities of his administration, adding that the lives of citizens cannot be jeopardized by counterfeit medicines.

On his investiture, Tyem described the honour as a call to duty and a reminder of the enduring values of mentorship, discipline, and faith. He recalled his formative years in the Boys’ Brigade, noting that the organisation shaped his character.

He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, women development, and support for the elderly.

“We will continue to transform our council and make it a shining light among others in the state. We will deliver people-oriented projects to the grassroots,” he assured.

Tyem also pledged support to the Boys’ Brigade, describing it as vital to instilling confidence and integrity in young people.

He called on residents to support Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration, noting that with the governor’s backing, local governments are delivering more dividends of democracy.

The chairman urged all sons and daughters of Tarok land to unite behind the government to achieve greater development.
