NCDMB Charges Stakeholders to Promote Local Content in Oil and Gas

By Amgbare Ekaunkumo, Yenagoa

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has urged media stakeholders and youth groups to strengthen their role in promoting local content in the oil and gas sector.

The call was made during a workshop held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Director of Corporate Services, Dr. Abdulmalik Halilu, highlighted the Board’s achievements over the past 15 years. These include investments in research and development, establishment of world-class Centres of Excellence in six universities, and strategic partnerships that have led to projects such as the Waltersmith Refinery, NEDO Gas Gathering Plant, and Better Gas Energy Services Limited LPG Terminal.

He noted that over 100 indigenous companies have expanded their operations to other oil-producing African countries, while increased ownership of marine vessels and rigs has strengthened Nigerian participation in the sector.

Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, General Manager of the Corporate Communications Division, commended the media, civil society, and youth groups for their support and urged them to continue acting as gatekeepers against misinformation about the Board.

The workshop also familiarized participants with NCDMB’s structure, accomplishments, operational targets, and procedures for registration for training and employment opportunities.

Dr. Halilu, in his presentation on “NCDMB Mandate and Achievements,” stressed that the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010 empowered the Board to build local capacity without compromising standards, while monitoring compliance with the Act. He emphasized that industry operations adhere to International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) standards.

The Board reiterated its commitment to job creation, economic growth, and innovation through research and development, urging continued collaboration with stakeholders to advance local content development in Nigeria.
