NDLEA seizes 66.3 kg Narcotics from Kano Airport – NOA

The National Orientation Agency, NOA, Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu has revealed that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in the month of August seized a total of 66. 255.81 kg of narcotics during a raid at the Kano Airport.
Issa-Onilu made this known on Monday in Abuja at the second Joint Security Press Media Briefing on cohesive, data driven narrative efforts on the record of security agencies to combat security challenges in the country.
According to the NOA DG, the security briefing is in line with its mandate to disclose key statistics and outcomes on security outcomes in the country.

The NOA while giving security statistics outcomes said, “The Kano Airport operations led to the seizure of 66,355.81 kg of narcotics, 13 firearms , assorted ammunition, three vehicles and N36 million in drug proceeds.”

“854 drug users were rehabilitated and 48 new vehicles were deployed to bust the Kano Airport syndicate.”

The NOA DG said, “All these actions are in line with strategy to balance interdiction with treatment and aggressive airport/border screening to send a clear message to the international community that Nigeria is intolerant of illicit drug use and drug trafficking.”
Furthermore, the NDLEA dismantled a syndicate targeting illicit drugs in pilgrims luggage at MAKIA Airport Kano, in which seven suspects and the ringleader of the gang were arrested.
In the same vein, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, in the month of August seized
17 forty- 40 feet containers of regulated product and five containers of imported tomato paste during an enforcement operation aimed at substandard and falsified products.
In the same raid, other major seizures included cartons of Analgin, Redec Cross olive oil, Goya oil, Oral B products, alcoholic beverages , beauty products and 700 cartons of assorted pharmaceuticals across Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Lagos, Asaba, and Kaduna.
