FG Declares Wednesday, October 1, Public Holiday to Mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary

The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, and released on Monday.

In his message, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the milestone and called on citizens to uphold the spirit of patriotism, unity, and resilience that has defined the nation since independence in 1960.

He further urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

“The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, 1st of October, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary,” the statement read. “The Minister enjoins citizens to continue to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity, and resilience that have sustained the nation since independence. He further urged Nigerians to keep faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, anchored on national rebirth and prosperity.”

While expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, the minister emphasized that with the cooperation and dedication of all citizens, the country would continue to record progress in peace, security, and development.

He concluded by wishing Nigerians a joyful and memorable Independence Day celebration, encouraging them to use the occasion as a time of reflection, thanksgiving, and renewed commitment to the unity and progress of the nation.
