Kaduna Human Rights Activist Arrested Over Alleged Kadpoly Land Racketeering

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A Kaduna-based human rights activist, Comrade Daniel Ejembi, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Police over allegations linked to land racketeering involving Kaduna Polytechnic (Kadpoly). Ejembi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Eagles Brain Human Rights Organization (HRO), confirmed his arrest in a text message sent to our correspondent on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 (Independence Day).

“I have just been picked by the police now,” Ejembi wrote. He also disclosed that he was served a court summons on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Although details of the arrest remain unclear, Ejembi’s detention is believed to be connected to a petition he submitted to government agencies over the alleged illegal relocation and development of Kaduna Polytechnic Television Campus land at Bypass, Kaduna.

On Tuesday evening, the activist revealed that he had been dragged before the Daura Magistrate Court, Kaduna, in connection with a letter he sent to the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Development and Property Company (KDSDPC) Ltd, Alh. Abubakar Rabiu. The letter, dated September 9, 2025 and referenced EBHRO/KDS/2025/004, sought a formal inquiry into the alleged acquisition and development of Kadpoly land by KDSDPC.

Ejembi alleged that the state-owned company was either directly developing or facilitating construction on the federal institution’s land without due process or authorization from the Federal Government. He described the alleged action as a violation of constitutional provisions, federal jurisdiction, and public trust. The activist demanded that KDSDPC issue a detailed response clarifying whether it had any involvement as a developer, facilitator, or investor in the project.

Relevant government bodies copied in the letter include the Kaduna State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, the Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic, the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS).

Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, for confirmation of Ejembi’s arrest were unsuccessful as calls and messages were not returned at the time of filing this report.
