Delta Govt Pledges Partnership with Asaba Correspondents for Accurate and Effective Reportage

By Anne Azuka, Asaba

The Delta State Government has pledged to strengthen its partnership with the Asaba Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to promote accurate, effective, and efficient dissemination of information on its policies and programmes.

The Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon. Johnson Obokparo Erijo, made the pledge when he received the Chapel Chairman and members of the Press Week Planning Committee in his office in Asaba.

Erijo commended the committee for choosing the theme:

“Understanding Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda: Meaningful Development in the Power Sector, a Panacea for Economic Recovery and Development of the Country.”

He described the state government’s collaboration with the Federal Government and the private sector in the power sector as a strategic move toward sustainable development. According to him, projecting the state’s power initiatives through accurate reportage would help attract investor confidence and support the administration’s vision to “light up Delta.”

“We are glad that you have this positive perception about the Government of Elder Sheriff Oborevwori and appreciate all he has done toward fulfilling his M.O.R.E Agenda.
We will support and partner with you to ensure continued accurate and effective publicity of the state’s programmes,” Erijo said.

He further noted that the proposed seminar and training workshop for journalists were essential to enhance media capacity in gathering, processing, and disseminating factual information on government activities.

Earlier, the Committee Chairman, Comrade Omon-Julius Onabu of ThisDay Newspaper, briefed the Chief of Staff on preparations for the 2025 Press Week, scheduled for the first week of November. He disclosed that the event would feature a seminar, a training session, and the launch of a “Chapel 18-Seater Bus” to ease journalists’ mobility within the state.

Onabu appealed for government support, describing the chapel as a dependable partner in public communication and policy coverage.

In his remarks, the Chapel Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Olannye, emphasized that the seminar’s theme would promote discussions on the economic value of improving electricity access across Delta State.

He stated that achieving a stable power mix could transform the state’s economy by creating jobs, boosting industrial productivity, and improving living standards.

“The economic benefits of attaining at least 20 hours of power supply as a state would be unprecedented—factories will operate at full capacity, jobs will be created, and life will become more meaningful for our people,” Olannye said.

He thanked the Delta State Government for its long-standing partnership with the chapel and urged continued support to ensure a successful Press Week celebration.
