Court orders oil well move from Bayelsa to Rivers

Jennifer Y Omiloli

The Federal High Court, Abuja has ordered the move of Soku oil field from Bayelsa to its legitimate proprietor, Rivers.

Judge Inyang Ekwo gave the order on Monday while conveying judgment in a suit organized by Rivers Government against the Attorney-General of Bayelsa and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Ekwo requested the National Boundary Commission, (NBC) to amend the mistake in its eleventh Edition of Administrative Map which assigned San Bartholomew River as the limit between the two states, rather than River Santa Barbara.

The Counsel had presented that the mistake happened in the eleventh Edition of the Administrative Map created by the NBC in 2002.

The NBC was said to have conceded its error in a letter dated July 3, 2002 in light of Rivers Government’s dissent and had vowed to amend it in the twelfth version of the managerial guide.
