Governor Abba Yusuf Reaffirms Commitment to Financial Inclusion as Signature Bank Opens Kano Branch

By Jabiru Hassan

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment, particularly for women and youth, as he officially commissioned the Kano branch of Signature Bank on Tuesday.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf described the establishment of Signature Bank in Kano as a strong vote of confidence in the state’s investor-friendly climate and business-enabling policies. He assured the bank’s management of the government’s full support and cooperation in fostering sustainable economic growth.

“We are open to partnership and collaboration with all financial institutions to create an affordable and sophisticated business environment that supports entrepreneurs and drives prosperity,” the governor said.

Governor Yusuf explained that his administration’s economic blueprint prioritizes empowerment and access to finance for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), noting that such institutions play a pivotal role in driving innovation, job creation, and inclusive growth.

He further commended financial institutions for their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which complement government efforts in youth empowerment and economic development.

The governor also applauded the Sabon Gari business community for its consistency in tax compliance, which he said contributes significantly to Kano’s revenue base and economic stability.

“The resilience and discipline of the Sabon Gari business community have continued to sustain our economic strength. We urge them to maintain this commitment as we build a more vibrant and inclusive economy,” he added.

Governor Yusuf assured Signature Bank’s Managing Director, Mr. Nixzon Iwedi, and his management team that Kano remains one of Nigeria’s most promising markets for financial growth and innovation.

In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, His Highness Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, commended the management of Signature Bank for expanding into Kano, emphasizing that deepening the financial sector is crucial to the state’s and nation’s overall development.

“Deepening the financial sector is central to our development vision. Kano is a good market, and I can assure you that Signature Bank will not regret its decision to operate here,” the Emir said.

The ceremony, which had in attendance prominent dignitaries including business leaders and government officials, highlighted the growing investor confidence in Kano’s economy under Governor Yusuf’s leadership.
