Kogi Polytechnic Inaugurates New SUG and NAKOSS Leaders for 2025/2026 Session

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has inaugurated newly elected executive members of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) and the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) for the 2025/2026 academic session.The ceremony took place on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the 200-Twin Lecture Theatre of the institution’s main campus in Lokoja.Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Usman, congratulated the new executive members and urged them to uphold transparency, accountability, and a student-centered approach to leadership.He emphasized that genuine student unionism must be anchored on sincerity, responsibility, and service to the university community.Professor Usman cautioned the leaders against being influenced by individuals who spread misinformation within the Polytechnic.He encouraged them to maintain integrity, prioritize student welfare, and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of the institution.Addressing rumours alleging the presence of bandits on campus, the Rector dismissed the claims as false.

He reassured students and the public that the institution remains secure and has not experienced any form of security breach.Professor Usman also commended the Students’ Union Electoral Committee for conducting what he described as a free, fair, and transparent election.He praised candidates who accepted the outcome of the polls, urging the winners to show humility and maturity in leadership.Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to student welfare and academic excellence, the Rector issued strong warnings against cultism, drug abuse, hooliganism, and other social vices.He stressed that the institution operates a strict zero-tolerance policy toward such behaviours.According to the Rector, the stability and safety enjoyed within the campus and across the state reflect the Governor’s dedication to good governance and proactive security strategies.

He further reminded student leaders that discrimination based on tribe, ethnicity, or religion would not be tolerated, encouraging them to promote unity and peaceful coexistence. In his acceptance speech, the new SUG President, Abdulmalik Abdulwahab, thanked his co-contestants for their sportsmanship and pledged to run an inclusive and progressive administration.He promised to elevate the standard of student unionism and work diligently to address the needs of the student body, while seeking collective support for a successful tenure.
