NYSC Members Urged to Be Good Ambassadors at Delta State Batch ‘C’ Closing Ceremony

By Anne Azuka

Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been urged to be good ambassadors of the scheme and responsible representatives of their families and states of origin. The charge was given on Tuesday by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori during the Terminal Parade and Closing Ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Special Projects, Barr. Funyei Manager, advised corps members to integrate fully into their host communities as they proceed to their different places of primary assignment. He encouraged them to interact positively with the people and embrace national service with commitment and patriotism.Oborevwori noted that such dedication would enrich their personal experience and enable the nation to benefit maximally from their contributions.“The orientation course you have just completed lays a strong foundation for the other cardinal programmes of the NYSC scheme,” he said. “Its components have exposed you to a variety of skills and knowledge that will prepare you to function effectively in your various places of primary assignment.”

He commended their positive attitude throughout the orientation period and formally declared the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course closed. The governor also appealed to corps employers across the state not to reject any corps member posted to them, urging them to provide conducive work environments that will enable the young graduates to contribute meaningfully to Delta State’s development.

Earlier in his remarks, the Delta State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, encouraged corps members to build on the foundation laid during the orientation course by committing fully to the post-camp training phase. He identified the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as a major highlight of the exercise.“Through the SAED In-Camp Training, corps members were introduced to various vocational and entrepreneurial skills aimed at promoting self-reliance and reducing dependence on white-collar employment,” Kwaghe said.

He urged the corps members to identify genuine needs within their host communities and initiate impactful projects, noting that the Community Development Service (CDS) remains a critical pillar of the NYSC vision.Kwaghe expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his continuous support and interventions toward the success of the NYSC scheme in Delta State. He also thanked the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for installing 229 solar-powered streetlights within the camp, which have improved security, enhanced aesthetics and provided better illumination at night.
